One Room Challenge – Week 7: Taking A Bow

one room challenge

The One Room Challenge has one more week after this which is reserved for taking pretty pictures of your finished room. Being still on Step #1 for the bedroom of stripping stubborn wallpaper for 7+ weeks, y’all probably already know…that’s not going to be happening annnnytime in the next few WEEKS here.

Therefore, with head held high, I’m going to be taking a bow, curtsy…whatever…out of the ORC.

I AIN’T QUITTING. ;) Although I’m stepping down from the ORC, I’m still going to be daily grinding away on stripping the wallpaper in Miss E’s room, and then: fixing the plaster, priming, painting, stenciling, moldings, etc etc etc. Lots still to happen and it will be happening, just in a longer time frame.

I’ll still be checking in at each stage of the bedroom restoration here, but I’ll be covering more of it on Instagram (@livinginafixerupper). In fact, if you go on my Instagram, you’ll see a little something else is busy brewing. I won’t get into it on here (yet) out of respect for keeping things in this post ORC related as that’s what this last one is, but…go and see. ;)

With all of that out of the way, here’s the final progress shot as far as the ORC is concerned. After this, it’s all my own posts again! ^_^

Where we stopped last week:

wallpaper removal plaster

Where it’s at as of now:

Got the rest of the top part of the wall to the left of the window and over the window, down to the rosette on the right. Crazy how that took hours and hours to do just that. But I’m good with it being this way – I’ve adjusted expectations and just keep plugging away, day by day, inch by inch.

So, to sum up these 7 weeks:

  • wallpaper removed (This is where I still am. I got the majority of 2 walls and some side areas around windows down, and have roughly 45% wall space left to go!)
  • wipe off glue residue
  • repair any areas on plaster
  • prime raw plaster (primer is sitting in a can on the floor)
  • find stencil (to be revealed!)
  • paint/stain wall moldings (not sure which yet)
  • install crown molding (Metrie)
  • install picture rail (Metrie – here’s my post on how to find picture rail in your local area)
  • fill nail holes on moldings, sand
  • caulk moldings
  • paint walls, BM Atmospheric AF-500 (I have the paint!)
  • stencil walls
  • replace window shades on West side
  • find antique canopy for chandelier (see antique reproduction canopy)
  • find ceiling medallion (see ceiling medallion)
  • paint ceiling medallion
  • install ceiling medallion
  • install ceiling light (thrifted the chandelier last Fall for $20!)
  • find wall sconce
  • install bedside sconce light
  • organize toys
  • organize shoes
  • find white sound machine to replace standing fan (we’re using the white noise machine by Letsfit and it’s been working out really well!)
  • install new curtains? (looking at these and these for when 96″ are back in stock – still not sure if green or pink either)
  • add picture rail hooks (hooks from Amazon)
  • find wall art and hang (some have been thrifted already)
  • thrift Karastan area rug? (depends on if I get lucky on FB Marketplace)

Later gators! See you in a few days as I dish out all the fun new thing cooking up on here and on Instagram involving this room!
