One Room Challenge – Week 5: Just Keep Scraping

one room challenge wallpaper removal

After my pivot in Week 4 of the One Room Challenge to make this challenge all about me removing the wallpaper in Miss E’s bedroom, it has been a little less intimidating. I still have a ton of scraping left to do and it may be a close shave with even having this new goal done in time before the 8 weeks are gone, but it seems more plausible.

I’ve been pivoting in the area of the wall I’ve been working on in her room as well. Although I was working on the wall with the double windows, this past week I felt like doing the space above her radiator, and so I did. It’s helped me to stay motivated by doing so.

It’s been slower going in this area too because I can’t use steam here with the position of the radiator right along the wall, so I’ve been scraping it dry. But thankfully it’s not been more difficult to scrape it off; just more time. No joint compound so far either in that area, which has been awesome.

One Room Challenge Accomplishments Week 5:

Wallpaper: I know I know, getting repetitive. But it’s still progress!

The canopy & parts for hanging the antique crystal chandelier all came! It’s a heavy cast brass antique reproduction and is so pretty:

After a trip to Home Depot, a new ceiling medallion is now on the way to replace the cracked one. Woot.

Her sconce light was ordered in the middle of May but has yet to ship! It’s the “Arstid” from Ikea. I called their customer service but it was just a pre-recorded message and then it automatically hangs up. I’ve heard from others with Ikea orders that they’re having the same experience.

That’s about it. I swear I’ll have more interesting posts after this darn wallpaper is all whipped. ;) Of course, if you have ideas for other things I can talk about or questions to answer with anything related to her room makeover/restoration, let me know in the comments! :)

Thanks for sticking with me and giving me such great encouragement both here and on Instagram, y’all!

  1. Hey, you are hanging in there very well. Very smart to pivot to a new area. It keeps you fresh, relatively speaking, and eventually all those different areas merge together. The canopy and sconce look good. Hope Ikea gets its act together soon for you.
